This is a very interesting paper which proposed the cognitive-miser model using Rasch model. The authors used five simple questions to indicate intuitive and deliberate responses during reasoning processes. Rasch analysis was used to decode the possibility of intuitive and deliberate responses, and readers can interpret the chance for intuitive and deliberate reasoning. This is the first paper I read in Psychometrika assuming a cognitive process via a measurement model, which is quite different from papers in traditional Psychometrika journal. It is very attractive and does motive readers in the psychological area to read through the article again and again. I only have two questions about this paper:

First, for the cognitive-miser model, is there any evidence to proof the existence of E2 and to distinguish E2 from the E1? It is not very clear how the authors supported their statements about the E1 and E2.

Second, for Model A, why did E1 and E2 occur after intuitive and deliberate reasoning both, instead in either one? For Model B, why did the E2 happen after two different reasoning processes? It seems to be more reasonable that two different types of errors took place after varied thinking processes compared to one type of mistake.
