THE COGNITIVE-MISER RESPONSE MODEL: TESTING FOR INTUITIVE AND
DELIBERATE REASONING

This paper presents a psychometric model based on Rasch model, referred to as the “cognitive miser” response model(CMR), and applies it to separate two response processes for reasoning—intuitive and deliberate response processes.
An experimental application shows that the proposed model facilitates the analysis of dual-process item responses and the assessment of individual-difference factors, as well as conditions that favor one response tendency over another one.
It is really an interesting paper especially for the questions related to the cognitive psychology about the process mechanism.
I have one question:
In formula (2) and (3), the probabilities of the response are giving by the product of the two dimensions, so the model is belong to the non-compensated model. I remember one of the assumptions is that they should be independent then you can multiply the probabilities. Does that mean if there are correlations between the two dimensions, then the formula can’t be used?
