This paper revisit the rationale of 3PL for guessing. As we in counter in most literatures related to guessing behavior, the transformation of 3PL in mathematically identical expressions are always shown to illustrate the procedures of guessing on students, such as the paper from Andrich (2011) and San Martin, etc (2006). The author clearly interpreted the logic of this transformation. Then the author imply the modeling logic based on the interpretation and the HYBRID model was mentioned.
It is very interesting that the same symbols after transformed showing the different logic of guessing behavior. But is there a inner and consistant rationale of guessing behavior? From the prior reading experience, the guessing is item properties or ability-based behavior is the two mainstream direction of modeling guessing behavior. But based on the description of the author on this paper, they are from the same mathematical expression. Interesting!
Also, since I am not familiar with the mixture model, I am also curious about the connections between mixture models and the main guessing models. Some readings about mixture models should be feed on the future.
